Loris Karius admits he still has no words to describe his mistakes in the Champions League final against Real Madrid back in May.
The goalkeeper was at fault for two of the La Liga side’s goals, first rolling the ball into the path of Karim Benzema before later mishandling Gareth Bale’s long range strike.
A tearful Karius was left inconsolable at full-time as he immediately held his hands up in apology to the travelling Reds supporters.
His efforts to rediscover some confidence in pre-season were soon dashed again when his error led to Liverpool conceding a sloppy goal in their win over Tranmere.
The arrival of Alisson from Roma for a then-world record fee for a goalkeeper would spell the end of his time on Merseyside, with Karius subsequently leaving on a two-year loan deal with Besiktas.
Looking back on the incident, Karius told Bild: “I still can’t explain the mistakes I made against Real Madrid. I have to get my confidence back and come to terms with the past.”

It was revealed shortly after the final in Kiev that Karius had suffered from a concussion after a collision with Sergio Ramos.
Touching on the subject, he added: “I don’t know if he meant it or not. Only one person knows that: Sergio Ramos.”
“I fell to the ground and thought to myself ‘what’s going on?’ I had adrenaline rushing through my blood and just wanted to play.”
Ramos had been in the thick of the action on the night having already been involved in the tussle that saw Mohamed Salah forced off injured after just 30 minutes.
A summer move to Besiktas for Karius marked the ideal opportunity to step away from the media spotlight on English football and get back to the basics without every decision and save being scrutinised.
Though it’s unlikely he will ever return to play a long-term role with Liverpool, there’s no doubting that Reds will be keen to see Karius succeed throughout the rest of his career.
