Klopp brashly responds to Mario Gotze question after recent links

Jurgen Klopp was less than impressed when the first question of today’s press-conference, ahead of tomorrow’s tie with Chelsea, was about Mario Gotze signing in January!

The reason the German has been linked again is because Kevin Grosskreutz recently suggested the once-great playmaker could ‘rebuild’ his career at Anfield, back under the guidance of Klopp, who brought him through the ranks at Borussia Dortmund.

It’s not something Klopp felt the need to discuss, however!

“This is absolutely nothing I would want to talk about in a press conference in England before a game against Chelsea! If I have to say something to Mario then I would call him!” Klopp said, reported by Goal correspondent Neil Jones.

Gotze has never really been the same since he left Dortmund in 2013 to join Bayern Munich. He’s now back at his boyhood club, but is predominantly a sub, having suffered a nasty illness last season that turned out to be a metabolic disorder.

It would be very romantic for Gotze to come to Liverpool, but he turned us down in 2016 and we’ve really no need for him, in all honesty.

His best form for Dortmund came on the left wing, but he no longer possesses the pace or dynamism for that role in Klopp’s Liverpool side.
