The striker acrobatically finished at the Kop end when Naby Keita’s effort had been saved by Willy Cabellero.
It came from superb work down the left-hand side, with the no.8 linking up smartly with Sadio Mane.
Sturridge’s finish was all the more impressive considering just minutes earlier he’d missed an open goal!
