‘Klopp called me on FaceTime…’ South American superstar on Liverpool boss

Alisson has a very high opinion of Jurgen Klopp based on everything he’s seen so far.

Liverpool’s manager beelined for Alisson in the summer, following the mistakes made by Loris Karius in the Champions League Final which cost us the trophy.

Much like with Virgil van Dijk, Klopp wasn’t prepared to get a ‘second-best’ option and we’d have either Karius or Danny Ward between our sticks had the Brazilian not been available.

Alisson has explained to the Italian media how Klopp persuaded him to join and just as importantly, how he helped him bounce back from his mistake against Leicester City.

“When the two clubs reached an agreement, Klopp called me a few times on FaceTime and he explained to me his project and what we would do together,” Alisson told Gazzetta dello Sport .

“I’ve admired him for a while, since his Dortmund days. I like being coached by him because he doesn’t say much, but he always knows what to say and how to say it.

“He’s an intelligent man with character. [After Leicester] he came into the dressing room and started joking. He dealt with it in the best way possible, since I already knew I’d embarrassed myself.

“Then he told me not to lose faith and to carry on playing that way.”

Alisson has gone a little longer with his distribution since the Leicester game, but that’s to be expected.

Against Chelsea, we saw him as a crucial shot-stopper for perhaps the first time – keeping out Willian and Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge.

He’ll need to be just as concentrated against Napoli in midweek and Manchester City at the weekend, before another painstaking international break occurs.
