Italian media outlet goes to town on Liverpool star after Napoli defeat

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport branded Mo Salah unrecognisable following his performance against Napoli at the San Paolo.

Liverpool lost 1-0 in our Champions League Group, which makes qualification for the latter stages trickier than it needed to be.

Salah failed to have any shots on target and looked fairly forlorn, although it has to be said the service he received was non-existent and his team-mates Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were equally uninspiring.

“Recognisable only by his crazy hair, he never managed to accelerate with the ball or even without it,” Gazzetta said, awarding the Egyptian 4.5/10, the lowest of any player on the pitch.

We do recognise that Salah’s start to the season has been poor, but only by his standards.

Last term, he notched 44 goals, so he’s almost competing against the reputation he forged for himself during his jaw-dropping spell in 2017/18.

We’re looking forward to seeing him at home to Manchester City, though. At Anfield, Salah does damage, and the Sky Blues will leave space he can exploit.

He needs the ball to run for him and to catch a break or to.
