Reds again linked with move for £18 million Netherlands winger

Reports in the Netherlands have again suggested that Jurgen Klopp is interested in signing 21-year-old Dutch winger Steven Bergwijn, who made his senior international debut this week in a 3-0 win over Germany.

According to De Telegraaf, both the Reds and Manchester United had scouts present when his current club PSV lost 2-1 at home to Inter Milan in the Champions League recently, while Spanish outlet Sport claim he has a €20 million (£18 million) release clause.

He has been linked with the Reds since June suggesting that the club are indeed keeping tabs on the youngster; whether an offer will materialise remains to be seen.

Pacy and with end product, the link to Bergwijn makes sense as he would fit with Klopp’s style, while he would join fellow international teammates Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum – if he could make as much of an impact as those two have this season, he’d be some signing.

Bergwijn has scored four times and assisted four times so far this season in eight Eredivisie matches and can play on either flank.

We’d certainly benefit from another option in wide areas, but we’d prefer to see Harry Wilson given that chance when he returns from Derby County.
