What Shaqiri did for Switzerland last night…

Xherdan Shaqiri is his country’s main man.

The Swiss playmaker played at no.10 for Switzerland on Friday night when his side lost to Belgium, but was a winner yesterday evening against Iceland.

Shaqiri played the entire game and was arguably Man of the Match in a 2-1 victory, that saw goals from Seferovic and Laing clinch the win.

He’s not been used that often for Liverpool, despite the fact Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have been out of form, so we’re glad he’s got some minutes and has returned to Melwood unscathed.

With Salah and Mane returning from international duty with injuries (the former has a groin strain and the latter a broken thumb), Jurgen Klopp may decide to use Shaqiri v Huddersfield on Saturday evening.

In our 4-3-3, Shaqiri fits best on the right, which could mean Salah is either benched or plays as a centre-forward.

As well as Shaqiri, Klopp has the option of Daniel Sturridge, who hasn’t been away with England and will be fully fit and dying for another opportunity.

Whoever takes the field should have enough to do the job against David Wagner’s side, of course.
