Trent explains where he wants to play ‘For Rest Of Career’

Ever since Trent Alexander-Arnold broke into Liverpool’s first-team, there’s been murmurings about how he’ll eventually be used in our midfield.

This is because of his ability to both run with and pass the football, although as of yet, the occasional cameos Jurgen Klopp has used the youngster centrally haven’t been especially successful.

For Trent, he’s more than happy to remain at right-back and has no definitive ambitions to ‘move up’ the field at any point.

“It’s a position that I enjoy and somewhere I love playing,” he told ESPN. “That’s my position, and if it’s that for the rest of my career then I’ll be more than happy to do that.

“It’s not something that I focus on. I just try and play where there manager puts me as well as possible.

“It’s not important to me where I’m playing, just as long as the manager is happy and trusting me to go out on the pitch. That’s all that really matters to me — playing for the club.”

We think this is smart. Trent has the potential to become one of the top three right-backs on the planet – so let’s let him fulfil it!

Box-to-box midfielders are more plentiful than elite right-backs, so we see no reason to change.

It’ll be interesting to see if Klopp chooses to use the 20-year-old on Saturday against Huddersfield.

Last time out versus Manchester City, the boss went with Dejan Lovren alongside Virgil van Dijk in the heart of defence, which pushed Joe Gomez out wide…

Both Gomez and Lovren did well, so it may be that Klopp decides to continue with that backline against his best friend David Wagner.

We’d plump for Trent, however, as the Scouser is a more natural attacker than Gomez and we’d expect to dominate against limited opponents.
