Leicester City star named as possible replacement for departing Liverpool man

Liverpool will reportedly keep tabs on Ben Chilwell as they begin preparing for life without Alberto Moreno.

The Leicester City left-back has emerged as a potential replacement for Moreno, who is expected to leave the club on a free transfer when his contract runs out next summer.

With negotiations over a new deal having proven ineffective, the Spaniard’s availability has supposedly alerted a number of clubs across Europe.

Arsenal are the latest to emerge as possible suitors, with manager Unai Emery considering a reunion with the 26-year-old after their time together at Sevilla.

The Reds could now turn to ‘long-term target’ Chilwell, according to the Mirror.

Chilwell impressed on his senior debut for England during last Friday’s draw with Croatia, subsequently retaining his starting spot in Monday’s 3-2 UEFA Nations League win over Spain.

His maiden call-up marked a deserved reward for a superb start to the season with Leicester, in which he has firmly established himself as Claude Puel’s starting left-back.

The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with an Anfield switch in the past, most notably in 2016 when he opted to stay put at the King Power Stadium after being the subject of a reported £7million bid from the Reds.

Liverpool may also have a left-back solution closer to home in the form of 18-year-old Adam Lewis.

The teenager has been a standout figure for Neil Critchley’s U23s so far this season, maintaining the sparkling form he displayed with Steven Gerrard ‘s U18s across the 2017/2018 campaign.

Such has been his lasting impression that he was recently rewarded with opportunities to train with Liverpool’s senior team during the international break.
