Egypt confirm Salah will not be rested despite securing AFCON qualification

Egypt assistant coach Michel Salgado (yes, the former Real Madrid and Spain full-back), says Mo Salah will NOT be rested during the next international break despite his side having already secured their AFCON2019 place.

Salgado, according to Egyptian newspaper Ahram Online, said: “Salah was the one who decided to remain on the pitch after picking up the injury in the first leg against Swaziland. We didn’t ask him to continue playing.

“Salah is an idol for every player in Egypt and Africa. He is important for the Egyptian team and, despite the fact that Liverpool would welcome resting him in the reaming qualifiers, we will continue depending on him to end our campaign as the group leaders.”

The move is not likely to go down well with Jurgen Klopp, although there could be some kind of agreement for him to only play a certain amount of time in the games against Tunisia and Niger.

Salah will be able to relax and play without pressure or strain, too, given the results do not matter to his country, so hopefully, it won’t prove to be too much of an issue.
