Liverpool star set for scan on injury sustained vs. Huddersfield

Jordan Henderson is set to have a scan on the injury that saw him substituted at half-time of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

The Liverpool skipper started the game at the John Smith’s Stadium but was replaced by Georginio Wijnaldum at the interval in what was immediately deemed as a precautionary switch.

Jurgen Klopp later revealed Henderson had been keen to continue, only for the club’s medical team to rule that he be brought off ahead of the restart.

He is now expected to be examined further on Sunday in order to determine the extent of an apparent hamstring problem, according to the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce.

Liverpool’s added caution over the midfielder will have partly been in view of Wednesday’s must-win Champions League clash at home to Red Star Belgrade.

The luxury of introducing a player in Wijnaldum’s form will have also eased concerns over the substitution potentially impacting the Reds’ shape or approach.

It does, however, continue a frustrating trend of fitness issues over the past week, with a number of players having returned from the international break in need of treatment on injuries.

To lose another midfielder for any period of time would be an untimely blow on the back of Naby Keita’s hamstring injury, which is expected to sideline him for at least two weeks.

At first glance, Henderson’s problem doesn’t appear to be anything serious.
