Joe Gomez strutted to another unobtrusive performance on Wednesday as Liverpool beat Red Star Belgrade to go top of their Champions League group.
The defender once again dominated in all aspects of the game to continue his outstanding start to the season in his preferred centre-back role.
Besides shrugging off physical challenges both aerially and on the ground with some ease, the England international persisted to flaunt his reliability as a distributor out from the back.
Any efforts from Red Star to bypass the superiority of Virgil van Dijk by instead latching onto the 21-year-old proved in vain. A scarily commanding and serene display from both further supported expectations of them becoming one of the Premier League’s most accomplished centre-back partnerships.
Rarely was Gomez forced to stretch his legs. On the odd occasion he was, the visitors had no answer for his athleticism.
One moment saw the Liverpool man produce an incredible recovery run to win a ball he had no right to beat his opponent to.

Liverpool’s supporters were left purring over what is becoming a familiar burst of pace from the defender.
Big Joe Gomez ran the 100m in 7 seconds again there, didn’t he?

Love it this season when an opposition striker looks like they're in on goal, only for Joe Gomez to cruise into top gear with a burst of pace and make up every inch of ground in seconds. Makes a change to enjoy watching us defend 👌#LFC

Got to Say, joe Gomez again was a joy to watch. This kid has got it all, his pace is frightening. You’ll do well to find a better young centre half anywhere in Europe at the moment. Get him tied down to a nice long deal please…

If Joe Gomez hasn’t got 99 pace on FIFA then there’s something wrong
