We haven’t heard a peep from the club about Zeljko Buvac since Jurgen Klopp’s no.2 left Liverpool on the eve of our Champions League away tie to AS Roma.

Technically, he’s still an employee of the club, but has been on what’s essentially gardening leave since his acrimonious departure.

There seems to have been a serious spat with Klopp, who Buvac had worked closely alongside ever since the German’s foray into management , although details have yet to be released.

“There won’t be an announcement from the club until the terms of his exit have been agreed,” Pearce told the Echo. “I thought it would have happened before now but clearly it has dragged on with lawyers involved.

“I certainly don’t expect Buvac to return to Liverpool. Officially, he’s still first assistant coach on the club site. That job really belongs to Pep Lijnders now but the Dutchman can’t be given that title until the loose ends from Buvac’s departure are confirmed.”

So there it is: Lijnders is Klopp’s actual assistant, if not by name.

Peter Krawietz also has a role behind the scenes, as does Andreas Kornmayer, the head of strength and conditioning.

On top of those two, there is nutritionist Mona Nemmer, goalkeeping coaches John Achterberg and Jack Robinson, and a whole host of medical staff and scouts.

Klopp’s team is huge, but his say is final. Together, we hope they can help a fantastically talented bunch of players onto great things this season.
