Sadio Mane responds to concerns over contract situation at Liverpool

Sadio Mane has played down nerves surrounding an apparent delay in negotiations over a new contract at Liverpool.

The Senegalese forward’s current deal at the club doesn’t expire until June 2021, but the Reds are evidently keen to extend his future on Merseyside.

Mane proved something of a blueprint for Jurgen Klopp’s system at the club with a stunning debut season following his move from Southampton.

His explosive pace and directness have emerged as traits the German’s approach has thrived on, helping Liverpool form one of the deadliest attacking forces in world football.

With fellow frontmen Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino having already signed new deals, Mane is seemingly next in line to be rewarded for his impact at the club.

Despite Liverpool opening initial talks with Mane’s representative last season, the winger is yet to put pen to paper.

Discussing his situation, Mane told the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce: “I am more focused on the games, things like contracts I leave with my agent.”

“I am happy and concentrating on giving my best for my team-mates, my manager and the fans.”

Mane is currently Liverpool’s joint-top scorer, with he and Salah having each scored seven goals across all competitions so far this season.

He already looks on course to challenge his tally of 20 goals across the 2017/2018 campaign as Klopp’s men go in search of Premier League title glory.

The 26-year-old’s rather respectable return in front of goal has arrived amid a period in which Liverpool have drawn wide-spread criticism for their lack of conviction in the final-third.

A front three that combined for 30 Champions League goals and 57 Premier League goals last season is yet to fully click. That can only be an ominous warning for the Reds’ closest rivals.

Right now, there is no need for concern over Mane’s future.
