In the absence of Jordan Henderson, James Milner was the Reds’ captain on Tuesday evening against Red Star Belgrade, and it didn’t go unnoticed among fans that he made a bizarre decision even before the game had begun.

The referee, Antonio Mateu Lahoz, used a coin with two different coloured sides to decide which end the teams would begin the match on and who would kick-off first – and Milner chose blue when he was asked to select!
Milner ended up losing the toss and from there on in it was a tough night for the Reds.
As these tweets show, the decision, broadcast live on BT Sport at the time, was not missed by Reds fans, who picked up on it straight away.
Milner gets a choice of red or blue and picks blue? 😒😂 #LFC

Jordan Henderson would never have picked blue over red in the coin toss. Please remove Milner as vice captain @LFC

It was the beginning of a bad night for Milner and his teammates – but the Reds can still progress from the Champions League, so all is not lost. At least Reds could see the funny side of this particular decision.
