Honest Alisson spills all with Brazil; Explains Liverpool’s instructions

Alisson has settled into life at Liverpool seamlessly, and it’s already hard to remember a time without him between our sticks!

The giant Brazilian temporarily became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper during the summer, before Chelsea broke our record with the Kepa signing…

In the Premier League, Liverpool have conceded just five goals after 12 games, which is 12 less than at the same stage last season – when 17 had been fired past Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

Alisson’s been largely praised for his role in shoring up our backline. He’s made a few errors, but none in the top flight which have cost us any points – and his ability with the ball at his feet is sublime.

According to the 26-year-old, Liverpool have drilled into him the concentration that’s required in our goal – due to there not being that many saves to actually make, week in, week out.

“I came here for a high price and some people expect to me to be perfect — it is not easy, but I’m trying,” he recently told Brazilian reporters, cited by ESPN.

“It is really early to say if I’m satisfied with how I’m playing, but I’m working to be perfect, I’m working to be better.

“The Premier League has great intensity, you have to be really focused all the time,” Alisson said. “One thing that is important here is the concentration and focus. They are asking me to be really mentally strong.

“My team have a really great defence so it is not often the ball comes near my net, but I have one or two opportunities to show my quality, so I need to be focused all the time.”

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez forming a sensational partnership in front of him, and Andy Robertson arguably our most consistent player at left-back, the defence is up there with anything in Europe right now.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is having a difficult season at right-back, but he didn’t have much time off during the summer and for a 19-year-old, has already played a huge amount of football.

Thankfully, with Dejan Lovren in reserve, Jurgen Klopp has the option of using the Croatian next to van Dijk and Gomez at right-back, when Trent needs a break.

Long-term, we have no doubt of his potential to develop into a world-class fullback.
