Rodgers explains why the time was right for him to leave the Reds in 2015

Brendan Rodgers has revealed just how much the Liverpool job took out of him – even though he loved the opportunity.

Rodgers told The Coaches Voice: “I took the call on the Sunday evening, after the Merseyside derby. The owners felt they needed to make a change. 

“On the Monday, I was offered another job [but] I needed the recovery; needed to get away. Liverpool had been an emotional rollercoaster.

“At such a huge club, one of the great clubs of the world, even the good days are difficult. I enjoyed every single minute of it, but it had taken a toll.”

Rodgers should be remembered as the man who guided us through that thrilling 2013/14 season and he doesn’t deserve some of the criticism he still gets.

If anything, his comments show how much the job meant to him – it’s certainly not an easy task at such a massive club and for long spells we had a great time under him.
