‘Special’ LFC man compared to Phil Coutinho

Steve McManaman has been as impressed as the rest of us when it comes to Xherdan Shaqiri – and he says he could help vacate the void left by Philippe Coutinho.

McManaman told LFCTV, via InsideFutbol: “He offers that little bit of a creativity in there if the front three are not firing or are just off their game.

“People keep talking back to Coutinho leaving and where is the creativity coming, and a lot of the midfielders, certainly at this moment in time, are all the same type of midfielders.

“Shaqiri as a midfielder does offer you something a little bit special. He’s done really well of late, he’s played really well – and he’s only been at a club like Liverpool for three or four months.”

If he carries on the way he’s going, we could well have a new Fab Four on our hands. It might be a little premature to start thinking of him as being at that level, but Shaqiri has certainly been a lot better than we thought he was going to be.
