Manager seeks talks with Dejan Lovren over Sergio Ramos comments

Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic has revealed he will call in Dejan Lovren for talks over the comments he made regarding Sergio Ramos on social media.

The Liverpool man appeared to admit to elbowing the defender deliberately in an Instagram live video following his nation’s dramatic 3-2 win over Spain.

This was accompanied by an image of Lovren beating the Real Madrid captain to a header along with the caption “good morning Croatia” the next day.

An ongoing feud between the pair seemingly stems from May’s Champions League final, when a tussle involving Ramos left Reds talisman Mohamed Salah with a dislocated shoulder and unable to continue beyond the 30 minute mark.

Ramos somewhat lived up to his role as pantomime villain in Kiev as he later joked he expected Roberto Firmino to come down with a cold after getting a drip of the centre-back’s sweat on him.

“I will talk with Dejan but that will remain between us and the squad,” Dalic said, per the Guardian.

“I don’t want to talk publicly about it.”

Lovren’s comments follow his claims that Spain showed a ‘lack of respect’ after beating Croatia 6-0 in September’s UEFA Nations League clash.

Virgil van Dijk recently offered some subtle support to his club teammate by dismissing suggestions that Ramos  is the best defender in the world, instead noting he prefers Raphaël Varane.

Next up for Lovren is a replay of last summer’s World Cup semi-final, with England set to host Croatia in a League A Group 4 decider at Wembley.
