Midfielder hands Liverpool fitness boost ahead of Watford clash

Jordan Henderson has handed Liverpool a welcomed fitness boost ahead of Saturday’s clash with Watford.

The Reds’ skipper missed England’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League win over Croatia after picking up a minor injury against the USA on Thursday night.

His return to Melwood for treatment sparked fears of another spell on the sidelines having only recently returned from a four-game absence.

Henderson is, however, expected to be available for selection at the weekend, according to the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce.

The midfielder was dearly missed in tough away fixtures against Arsenal and Red Star Belgrade after picking up a hamstring injury in last month’s 1-0 win over Huddersfield.

His availability promises to be key across a busy festive schedule as summer signings Naby Keita and Fabinho look to accelerate their adjustment to life on Merseyside.

Both have endured subdued starts to their Anfield careers, with the onus now being on Keita in particular to inject a much-needed creative edge in midfield.

Fabinho remains just behind his teammate in terms of his progression, but is seemingly beginning to get to grips with a new-look system.
