We reckon it’ll be very hard for any Liverpool player other than Trent Alexander-Arnold to take a direct freekick from now on, following the youngster’s wonder-goal v Watford yesterday!
From all of 30-yards, the Scouser curled the ball up and over the wall into the top corner; in a breathtaking show of technique and dead-ball striking ability.
But it turns out there was no guarantee Trent would be allowed to take the freekick in the first place, according to the player himself!
“Before the game me, Hendo, Millie, everyone was joking about who would take it,” Alexander-Arnold told the Echo.
“I think Hendo wants one so he stepped up with the ball in his hand. Then he passed it to me because the gaffer said before the game that me and Shaq would be on them.
“So that’s why when you look back at it, me and Hendo had a little moment together when we celebrated as a bit of a joke.
“It’s always good to be able to score and contribute to a win; we were happy to get the win first and foremost.”
Xherdan Shaqiri has nice technique on the dead-ball, but Mo Salah and Jordan Henderson should be nowhere near them in all honesty.
We’re just glad our brilliant Egyptian was taken off corner duty actually, as he rarely beats the first man!
We hope the goal will give Trent a confidence boost, as we think at times this season he’s played within himself – and made rash decisions with the ball.
His ability is potentially world-class, so if he can channel it correctly and continue to improve, we’re going to have an exceptional player on our hands for the next decade at least.
Trent’s effort yesterday was his fourth in total, but we think by the time he hangs up his boots, he’ll have an entire compilation of superb long strikes to look back on.
