Liverpool on course to break incredible Premier League record

Around 14 months ago, Liverpool’s defence was a thing to be ridiculed.

We hadn’t purchased the central defender we desperately needed, had two poor goalkeepers competing for one position and consistently threw away matches we should have won via diabolical play from the backline.

Fast forward a year and a bit and Jurgen Klopp fields an entirely new back-five.

Back then, a first-choice defence could take the field like this: Mignolet; Clyne, Moreno, Matip, Lovren. Now, every single position has been upgraded, either via the transfer market or the Academy: Alisson; Trent, Robertson, van Dijk, Gomez.

This term, Liverpool have conceded just five Premier League goals in 14 matches – which means the club is actually on track to breaking Chelsea’s defensive record from the 2004/05 season – when they won the title having let in just 15. If we continue at the current rate, Liverpool will finish this term having conceded 13.

When you consider where we’ve actually come from, that’s incredible.
