Pochettino jokes about ‘big’ Liverpool transfer in January

Mauricio Pochettino was tight-lipped when asked why Spurs scout Steven Hitchen was at Anfield to watch Liverpool v Everton on Sunday.

The Argentine joked that a big winter deal was imminent, before explaining how he considered Liverpool fans celebrating Arsenal’s goals v Spurs a big compliment.

“There is maybe a big surprise in January!” Pochettino began.

“[Our chief scout] Steve Hitchen was at the Liverpool game against Everton and was watching our game before in the stadium – and when Arsenal scored the third goal all the Liverpool fans celebrated, like Arsenal celebrated after,” Poch said, cited in Football365.

“It’s clear we’re doing something good. I love it when the people celebrate when they beat you. I don’t like it when the people don’t celebrate because it’s normal to beat Tottenham.”

Arsenal’s win did help us out, points wise, as Spurs are now six points behind us – which gives us a little bit of breathing space.

Chelsea are five points behind us in third, and while we’re undefeated in 14, with 11 wins, we’re still two points off Manchester City at the top!

There’s nothing we can do about the fact we’re competing with probably the best side the Premier League has ever seen for the title…

They won again last night – so all Liverpool can do is continue to rack up the points. It already feels like every game is a must-win.

In fact, we’d almost celebrate a City draw as much as we did the Merseyside Derby win in the coming weeks!
