Mad statistic shows difference between 13/14 season and 18/19

In 2013/14, Liverpool came within inches of Premier League glory…

But our defence and goalkeeper usually lined up like this: Mignolet; Johnson, Skrtel, Toure, Flanagan.

In total, in all competitions, we racked up 12 clean-sheets that term, three of which came in the opening three matches.

Really, this goes to show just how sensational Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge were up top, with Raheem Sterling, Coutinho and Steven Gerrard playing vital support roles.

This season, Liverpool HAVE ALREADY kept 12 clean-sheets in all competitions – and it’s only December 12.

We’ve still got 22 more Premier League matches to play, the rest of the Champions League and the FA Cup!

That goes to show that if our current backline had been playing a few years back, we’d have most likely stormed the league – but the fact they’re on-board now makes us realistic contenders this time around.

Alisson is the world’s best keeper right now and in Virgil van Dijk, we probably have the best centre-back on the planet as well. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are sublime fullbacks, and whoever plays alongside our phenomenal Dutchman, whether that’s Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren or Joe Gomez, seems to do an outstanding job.

Long may it continue.
