Alder Hey staff were left refreshingly awe-struck as Mohamed Salah arrived for his visit of the children’s hospital on Thursday.

The Egyptian joined his Liverpool teammates in meeting the young patients in what has become something of a festive tradition for the club.

It wasn’t just the children that were delighted to see the Reds, but also two surprised staff members as they brushed shoulders with the forward.

Thankfully, Alder Hey’s social media team were at hand to capture the brilliant moment.

The Reds were organised into groups before delivering presents, playing games and taking photos with the children and their relatives. Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane put their art skills to the test when they joined the youngsters in painting plates, whilst Alberto Moreno took on another in a game of Connect Four.

Reaction to the day on social media evidenced a touching and humbling experience for Jurgen Klopp and his players ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester United.

Dejan Lovren wrote on Instagram: “Whether you’re are a Red, a Blue or a fan of another team, the most important thing in life is that we take care of each other. It was an honour to spend the afternoon at Alder Hey with the children and the wonderful staff there.”

Daniel Sturridge added: “Always a beautiful thing to go to Alder hey and visit the kids over the Christmas period. Puts things into perspective how fortunate we are.”
