Van Dijk: The truth behind Mo Salah’s muted celebrations

Reds fans have noticed in recent weeks that Mo Salah has not been celebrating his goals as wildly as he has in the past – but Virgil van Dijk says there is no cause for concern.

Some have suggested he was annoyed at being taken off in the Merseyside derby, while others claim he is hitting back at those who ludicrously called him a ‘one-season wonder’.

Van Dijk said, via the Daily Star: “He’s scoring goals. He’s smiling. He can’t smile every second of the day but he’s enjoying it, I think.

“He scored a hat-trick in his last league game and again against Napoli, a very important one. He’s scoring his goals, he’s working hard, defensively as well.

“People underestimate how strong he is. He’s a very important player. We don’t need to see any negative things about that (goal celebration); we just need to focus on the good things.”

With 10 Premier League goals already this season, and a crucial one midweek against Napoli, we certainly aren’t concerned. As long as he’s scoring, it doesn’t matter whether he celebrates on the pitch or not.
