Klopp explains LFC’s aims this January transfer window

Liverpool will only buy players this January if we’re dramatically struck down by further injuries.

At the moment, Jurgen Klopp is without Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, both of whom are recovering from broken bones, but should be back before the end of January.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains a long-term absentee, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Milner are not fit for tonight’s game with Wolves.

As a result, it’s mighty fortunate Nathaniel Clyne has returned from injury to bolster our options at right-back.

“I would say no but I don’t know exactly what will happen until the transfer window closes,” Klopp told the Echo, when asked about potential winter additions.

“In the moment it looks that Joe and Joel will be back before the window closes so why should we do that?

“Could we get somebody just for January with the quality we need? I am not sure that is possible.”

You can’t really argue with Klopp’s comments, to be fair.

New signings are always exciting, but the brilliant reality is that for the first time in a very long while, we don’t need any.

The defence is superb, the midfield ever-improving and the frontline exceptional.

In the summer, a high-level playmaker may improve our options, but that’s not something we need to worry about when we’re halfway through a Premier League title pursuit.
