Shaqiri: The main reason I’m killing it with Liverpool

Xherdan Shaqiri has already become one of our favourite Liverpool signings in some time.

The Swiss only cost £13m when we bought him from relegated Stoke this summer, but he’s already scored five goals and registered three assists in just over 700 Premier League minutes – the equivalent of about seven and a half full matches.

His brace that helped Liverpool defeat Manchester United last time out has secured his status as a cult-hero amongst the supporters, but according to Shaqiri, it’s all down the Jurgen Klopp.

“The manager is, for me, the most important thing,” the No.23 told the official website.

“Also with the move – he wanted me to come here and from the beginning we had some very good conversations, and also funny conversations!

“I feel very good with him and it is important to have a good relationship with the coach.

“I like that he is very modest, a very good character and you can joke with him – but on the other side of things you have to perform.

“That’s important to be successful together and I hope we can have a lot of successful times at Liverpool.”

Virtually every other member of Liverpool’s squad would say the exact same thing.

In the summer, Klopp purchased Alisson, who’s had a tremendous affect on the squad and his team-mates; Fabinho, who’s beginning to do the same; and Naby Keita – whose undeniable talent is slowly coming to the surface.

In fact, we can’t remember the last time Liverpool purchased a flop, with Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Mo Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain our previous four transfers before summer 2018.

It’s this kind of jaw-droppingly good recruitment which has seen us secure a genuine shot at the title this term.
