‘I keep the door open’ – Klopp explains January transfer plans amid Pulisic links

Jurgen Klopp has refused to close the door Liverpool making any new signings in January as he prepares for all scenarios.

A barrage of defensive injuries of late has seen the Reds’ transfer activity creep into lens as they strive to sustain their assault on the Premier League title beyond the festive period.

Liverpool are currently without Joe Gomez (fractured leg) and Joel Matip (fractured collarbone), with the pair having been ruled out for up to six weeks.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has meanwhile just returned to training after suffering an ankle injury in the 1-0 win over Napoli earlier this month.

Whilst satisfied with his squad, Klopp isn’t ruling anything out just yet.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m very happy with what I’ve got and what I have, but how I said, we don’t know and that’s the only little bit why I keep the door open because if some things happen then we need to have a look.”

“Well, if a few more things happen then we need to have a look because there are a monstrous number of games still and it’s really important that we can always react.”

An added set of legs, regardless of position, would undoubtedly be a boost to Liverpool’s title’s chances amid a typically gruelling winter schedule.

It remains to be seen whether Klopp will make his move for Christian Pulisic, who is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund in 2019.

The German is a long-term admirer of the USA international having managed him briefly during the latter stages of his time in charge at the Westfalenstadion.

Dortmund are reportedly prepared to agree a £70million deal to sell Pulisic as early as January, but only on the condition that he stays put until the end of the season.

There has also been talk of a potential recall for Harry Wilson, although Klopp is evidently keen to avoid disrupting the Welshman’s superb loan spell with Derby County.
