Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain takes huge stride in recovery from injury

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain handed Liverpool an early present as he took another meaningful stride in his recovery from injury on Christmas Eve.

The midfielder was able to run outside for the first time since being stretchered off with knee ligament damage in April’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma.

A gruelling rehabilitation process has entailed significant steps in recent months, with the former Arsenal man having started passing the ball again back in September.

This was followed up in October when he was seen running for the first time again with the support of an anti-gravity treadmill.

He later uploaded a video of himself hitting the crossbar with a shot on his left-foot and balancing between both legs whilst keeping the ball up with his trainer.

The 2017 summer signing took to Instagram again on Monday to display his latest progress.

The 25-year-old is expected to miss the remainder of the season, although has admitted himself that he is hopeful of an early return.

Speaking last month, he told the Liverpool Echo: “I’d love to be able to make an appearance at least before the end of the season.”

“Even when I’m back, I won’t be fully at the races but it would be nice to get a few appearances before the end of the season. Probably more mentally, to prove I can do it. Then I have a good pre-season and start afresh next season.”
