Mohamed Salah learns fate after FA assess penalty incident vs. Newcastle

Mohamed Salah will not be punished over the penalty incident he was involved in during Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Newcastle on Boxing Day.

The Egyptian won and scored from the spot early in the second half after going down under a slight pull from the trailing arm of Paul Dummett.

Whilst Salah admittedly went to ground easily, it was also a senseless decision from the defender to make contact with the forward.

Having already gone ahead through Dejan Lovren’s half-volley, the Reds followed up the effort from 12 yards with a third from Xherdan Shaqiri and a fourth from Fabinho.

Salah will not face any retrospective disciplinary action, with the incident not meeting the FA’s threshold for deception of a match official, according to the Times’ Paul Joyce.

It marked the first penalty Liverpool have been awarded in the league at Anfield in 424 days since Salah missed in a 3-0 win over Huddersfield in October 2017.

His conversion on this occasion means he now sits on 15 goals across all competitions so far this season in his bid to follow up an extraordinary 44-goal 2017/2018 campaign.

The news that Salah will avoid punishments quashes looming concerns over a potential ban amid a pivotal stage of the Premier League title race.

With Arsenal and Manchester City to come over the next two weeks, Jurgen Klopp needs his no.11.
