Harry Wilson moved ahead of Lionel Messi on Boxing Day thanks to the latest addition to his collection of long-range efforts for Derby County.

The Liverpool loanee found the top corner with a stunning free-kick as his temporary employers slipped to a 3-1 defeat against play-off rivals Sheffield United.

It marked the fifth direct free-kick he has scored from for the club and his ninth goal across all competitions since his arrival in the summer.

His strike means has now scored six goals from outside the penalty area in the Championship so far this season, thereby bettering Lionel Messi’s five in La Liga.
