The incredible Van Dijk statistics that sum up his growing influence

Whichever way you look at it, Virgil van Dijk is world-class.

The Dutch powerhouse has been nothing short of incredible for the Reds this season, and the statistics show just how good the defender has been.

This time last season, just before Van Dijk arrived from Southampton, Liverpool had conceded 23 times including a 5-0 battering at Manchester City and a 4-1 demolition at Spurs; before hosting Arsenal on Saturday, the figure after 19 games this season is just seven.

Van Dijk has the best passing statistics of any Reds player including having completed the most long balls (92) and has made more than double the amount of clearances (96) than any other player.

The best statistic, though, is that he is officially yet to make a defensive error according to the Liverpool Echo.

That will change at some point, surely, but – similarly to Alisson – Van Dijk has been so good he has more than enough credit in the bank.

It’s genuinely difficult to put into words just how good he is at the back for the Reds as the main leader in the title tilt – it’s crazy how a £75 million deal can be made to look like such a steal so quickly.
