RB Leipzig could be forced to allow Timo Werner to leave on the cheap if he doesn’t sign a new contract, according to Bild (via The Metro), with Liverpool being linked with a cut-price £36 million move.
The striker has long been linked with a switch to the Reds – but with his contract running out in 2020, Leipzig could be forced to let him leave sooner rather than later if he refuses to sign a new deal to avoid losing him on a free.

This season, the forward has scored 11 goals, but reportedly feels he needs to further his career elsewhere having not won a trophy with Leipzig. His side are currently 11 points off Borussia Dortmund who occupy top spot in the Bundesliga.
A move for the 22-year-old does make sense, and for Jurgen Klopp to reunite Werner with Naby Keita would not be a huge shock, but whether that happens in January seems unlikely.
The future of Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge is not certain, so a new centre-forward might well be on Klopp’s 2019 wishlist.
We’d certainly like to see Werner at Anfield in future, although there will be a lot of competition for his signature. Bayern Munich are also keen on him, but Leipzig would rather see him move abroad, which could work in the Reds’ favour.
