Jamie Carragher says he will never be a football manager – because of the adverse impact it would have on his family.
Being a coach is completely different to being a player, with much more stress and far longer working hours, which the family man and former centre-back does not feel would suit him.
Speaking to Steven Gerrard for The Telegraph, the two Reds legends discussed management, which Gerrard is settling into well at Rangers.
Gerrard said: “[You’re always] thinking about the job and even when you go home you are immediately thinking about what you are going to do next and it is a far busier schedule than being a player.”
Carragher wrote: “This is one of the reasons I could not become a manager. I did not want to be a manager enough to have it impact on my family life.”

Management is certainly not for everyone – Gary Neville proved that – and Carragher has established himself as a really top pundit.
We’d love to see Gerrard as the manager of Liverpool one day – and it would be interesting to see if Carragher changed his stance if he asked him to be on his coaching staff in that scenario.
At least then he’d be able to remain in Merseyside and would not lose out on family time too much.
For now, though, we’ll just have to make do with his analysis for Sky Sports.
