Pulisic outlines why he signed for Chelsea over the Reds

Christian Pulisic claims it was Chelsea’s style of play under new manager Maurizio Sarri that convinced him to sign for the Stamford Bridge side.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds had not been interested in signing the Borussia Dortmund winger ever since Xherdan Shaqiri was acquired in the summer for a fraction of the price, but Pulisic insisted he had made a choice, and the right one.

He told ESPN’s Rafa Honigstein: “I’ve seen [Chelsea’s] style of play. I’ve always appreciated how they’ve played football, and it’s really nice how they play now, with their new coach. It fits me very well.”

The Reds made a bid of £11 million in 2016 which was rejected, but since then have moved on to other targets, with Jurgen Klopp feeling the team have moved past Pulisic and no longer need him.

The American winger was in Marbella for the winter break in Germany, where ESPN spoke to him about the move.

On why he did not sign for Liverpool, Pulisic added: “It’s not something I want to talk about. I’m very happy with my decision to join Chelsea.”

We know that the Reds want another attacker, and given it is not Pulisic and a move for Nabil Fekir died in the summer, the question is who that should be.

Whoever it is, any transfers are more likely to come in the summer than this month, with January known for inflated fees and panic buys.
