Dortmund named as Reds competition for Germany international

Borussia Dortmund are believed to be the latest club interested in RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, according to German site Bild.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the striker, who only has 18 months remaining on his contract, while Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in signing him.

Bild, though, say Werner would not favour a move to Bayern because he does not want to be a back-up option to main forward Robert Lewandowski.

If he doesn’t want to go to a team where his place would be uncertain, though, signing for the Reds wouldn’t make much sense given Mo Salah has been playing through the centre this season.

Werner has 11 goals in 17 games this season for Leipzig and has been compared by some to former Reds striker Fernando Torres.

At 22, he is a good age to come in and make an impact at Liverpool, and given his contract situation, the price-tag would be fairly modest.

Werner would still get a lot of time on the pitch, but Jurgen Klopp might have to do some convincing if the deal is to get over the line.
