James Pearce provides fantastic news after Thursday night scare

Virgil van Dijk is fit, healthy and will start against Brighton tomorrow.

There were rumours that actually started on the Brighton website, oddly, that Liverpool’s Dutchman would be unavailable due to illness – but thankfully – these have been quashed by Echo correspondent James Pearce.

The defender trained at Melwood and barring any random complications, will lead our backline at the Amex.

An injury or an issue with van Dijk right now would be a genuine catastrophe.

With Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren all injured, the 27-year-old is not only the best centre-back in the world, but Liverpool’s only fit senior one.

As a result, Fabinho will play alongside him on the south coast, which is an issue in itself due to Jordan Henderson’s injury problems.

With the captain potentially out with a calf injury, Jurgen Klopp’s options for the middle of the park are Gini Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and James Milner, with the first two likely to form a double pivot behind Xherdan Shaqiri, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah.

We actually like this potential XI and really hope it can get us back on winning ways.
