Confirmed Liverpool XI vs. Brighton: Klopp makes nine changes & striker misses out due to illness

Jurgen Klopp has made nine changes to the team that lost to Wolves in the FA Cup as Liverpool prepare to resume their Premier League season away to Brighton.

Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri are the only players to retain their starting spots from the side that suffered the 2-1 defeat at Molineux on Monday night.

The former will again be deployed as a make-shift centre-back in light of injuries to Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren and with Joel Matip having only returned to training during the week.

He will, however, be joined by experience on this occasion in the form of Virgil van Dijk after the Dutchman was left at home for the Reds’ cup elimination.

Alisson reclaims his place between the sticks, whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson come in at either full-back position in place of 18-year-old Rafael Camacho and Alberto Moreno, respectively.

Captain Jordan Henderson also returns after recovering from a minor injury to line up alongside Georginio Wijnaldum in central midfield.

Daniel Sturridge meanwhile isn’t involved due to a virus, according to Liverpool FC reporter James Carroll.
