Klopp: Why Sadio Mane was one of my biggest career mistakes

Jurgen Klopp says Sadio Mane represents one of the biggest mistakes in his life – because he didn’t sign the Senegalese winger when he was the manager of Borussia Dortmund.

Mane signed for the Reds from Southampton in 2016 and has become a key man since then, scoring 42 times in 100 matches in all competitions, including in the Champions League final against Real Madrid last season.

Klopp, though, has revealed he had the chance to sign Mane in Germany, but opted not to, which he sincerely regrets.

According to The Express, Klopp said: “I have made a few mistakes in my life and one of my biggest mistakes ever was not taking Sadio when I was at Dortmund.

“We were together in an office and I spoke to him. Afterwards, I wasn’t sure but that was really my fault!

“He’s an outstanding boy and life gave me a second chance to work with him and hopefully we can both use it. The time I have spent with Sadio has been fantastic.”

The only important thing is that Mane is playing in a red shirt now – Klopp got it right in the end. He’s made himself a really influential part of the team.

The winger has been instrumental since Klopp arrived and will continue to be so this season and for seasons to come.
