The only question FSG ever ask Academy Director Alex Inglethorpe

FSG are not interested in how Liverpool’s youth teams are performing in the league – but only which players could potentially represent the first-team.

This is according to Alex Inglethorpe, who was speaking in length to James Pearce in a very interesting interview.

“Mike Gordon (President / Partner of Fenway Sports Group) has been tremendously supportive of the Academy,” Inglethorpe told the ECHO.

“He’s very hands on and we’re lucky to have his complete backing. The owners have a big interest in what’s going on here but they never ask me where the under-23s are in the league or how the under-18s are doing in the cup.

“It’s all about development and getting players through to assist the first team. The only question they ever ask me is: who’s next?”

Under Jurgen Klopp, multiple Liverpool youngsters have been given first-team debuts, but only Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez have established themselves as first-team regulars when fit.

However, Rhian Brewster will be part of the first-team squad when fit; and Ki-Jana Hoever, Curtis Jones and Rafa Camacho have all made debuts this season and have a bright future ahead of them.

Under our German manager, if you’re good enough, you’re old enough. It’s fantastic that FSG support the Academy so much and we think in years to come there’ll be multiple first-teamers who’ve sprung from our youth sides.
