Liverpool ‘definitely’ interested in £30m midfielder, claims Italian football expert

Liverpool are one of multiple clubs in the race to sign Brescia starlet Sandro Tonali, according to Italian football expert David Amoyal.

Reports out of Italy recently claimed the Reds had opened talks over a deal for the 18-year-old, who is valued at £30million.

Brescia owner Massimo Cellino, formerly of Leeds United, also revealed he had been contacted by Anfield officials in regards to the midfielder’s availability.

Tonali’s blossoming reputation in Serie B has already seen him attract strong interest from the likes of Juventus, Roma and AC Milan.

Despite links to the teenager, Liverpool are not expected to add to their squad before the end of the January transfer window. That isn’t to say, however, that a switch isn’t possible further down the line.

Speaking on the Calcioland podcast, Amoyal said: “There are many clubs interested. There are multiple clubs in the Premier League, Liverpool is definitely one of them.”

“Brescia’s president Cellino is asking for a huge return for him. At the moment, I would say Juve and Inter are still the favourites.

He added: “How concrete their interest, and how close they are now remains to be seen. I don’t get the vibe it’s that close either way.”

Tonali has spoken publicly to Sky Italy of his desire to work under the management of Gennaro Gattuso at boyhood club Milan.

A move to Italy’s top flight appears the most likely route for the midfielder given the calibre of clubs interested in signing him.

With regards to summer activity, Liverpool are expected to prioritise the addition of another goalscorer as they prepare for the departure of both Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.
