What Klopp does with Marko Grujic proves he’s a superb man-manager

Marko Grujic hasn’t played for Liverpool at senior level since the 2017/18 season, and his three appearances were only from the bench.

But the Serb is still very much in Jurgen Klopp’s thoughts. Liverpool’s manager, who’d be forgiven for thinking about other things considering his team is in a Premier League title race, phones the player after every time he scores.

Grujic was speaking to German outlet Berliner Kurier and explained how Klopp still keeps constant contact with him and drops a line after each success.

The 22-year-old is doing exceptionally well for Hertha BSC and his stock is once again rising.

On his future, Grujic said he doesn’t know if it is at Liverpool and will wait until the summer.

“Liverpool just has enough games and other things to think about. I’m waiting for Liverpool’s decision in the summer. I can only say that I am very happy here. That suits everything,” he said.

Grujic could well be one of those players who eventually shines on the continent after failing to make the Anfield grade – a la Suso, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto.

But the fact is we don’t really have the time to blood in a ‘potentially good’ midfielder – we need players who can contribute from Day One – as our situation now requires constant wins in order to compete for the biggest trophies.

Grujic may be a victim of that, but if he continues to impress in Germany, Klopp may decide he deserves another opportunity to prove his worth during pre-season.
