Marko Grujic transfer update: Preetz talks Liverpool’s Serb

Hertha Berlin’s sporting director Marko Preetz rates our on loan midfielder Marko Grujic very highly…

So much so, he’s promised to speak with Liverpool this summer about securing the Serb for the 2019/20 campaign – whether that be on loan again or permanently.

Grujic starts in Pal Dardai’s best side in the Bundesliga and is now getting the minutes his talent deserves after an injury curtailed his progress in the first half of the season.

“First and foremost, we’re happy that we have Marko,” Preetz told German outlet Kicker, via Bulinews .

“I’d always prefer that a player helps me out for a year than not at all. We’ll certainly talk to Liverpool about the next season.

“All the guys can help us make a difference in a season when something extraordinary is possible.

“That is our goal, and it would be wonderful to successfully take the next step together.”

Grujic definitely has talent. He has good technique and is skilful, but his lack of tactical discipline has so far curtailed his ability to play under Jurgen Klopp.

Our manager enjoys midfielders who can pick a pass and dribble, so long as they’re solid off the ball – which Grujic is so far not.

At 22 though, he has plenty of time to improve. We hope he continues to shine in Germany and then Liverpool can make a decision in the summer.

If there’s no future for Grujic at Anfield, he’ll still command a hefty transfer fee – but we’d like to see him get a go in pre-season.
