Timo Werner receives advice amid Liverpool transfer speculation

Emil Forsberg is eager to see the “new face of German football” Timo Werner stay at RB Leipzig beyond the summer transfer window.

The striker has been strongly tipped to leave the Bundesliga side this year as negotiations over a new deal continue to stall.

Leipzig are said to be open to selling him at the end of the season ahead of the expiry of his current contract in June 2020.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich have emerged as potential suitors, with Jurgen Klopp expected to strengthen his attacking ranks with the addition of another goalscorer.

Whilst keen to see the forward remain in Germany, Forsberg insists he won’t try and influence the 22-year-old’s decision.

He told Sport Bild: “Timo is the new face of German football.”

“He’s the future. To keep him at RB would be great for the whole club.”

“I know that he feels very comfortable in Leipzig and with what he has at the club. But I can’t talk him into anything. He has to trust his gut feeling.”

Werner has scored 13 goals in 23 games across all competitions so far this season and 56 in 100 games for RB Leipzig since signing from Stuttgart in 2016.

Liverpool’s pursuit of the forward may well depend on the fee Leipzig opt to demand for his services, with the club not expected to match the spending sprees of previous transfer windows.

The player himself also promises to play a defining role, with home grown talent in Germany having often swayed towards Bayern in the past.
