Garth Crooks has waxed lyrical about Andy Robertson following the Scot’s excellent outing against Bournemouth.

Robbo got an assist and found the form which was absent during our draws with Leicester and West Ham.

Crooks reckons the 24-year-old is so good that he’s actually the best left-back the Premier League has seen since formerly world-class Arsenal and Chelsea operator Ashley Cole.

“I just love watching this kid play. Apart from anything else, he has nerves of steel,” Crooks wrote in his Team of the Week column for BBC Sport.

“The ball he played for Georginio Wijnaldum to score was just wonderful and the side-foot volley when Sadio Mane should have scored was just sensational.

“There is nothing more frustrating for a striker than a full-back who offers nothing going forward and I’ve played with enough to know. Robertson is a striker’s dream and the best I’ve seen since Ashley Cole.”

We think Crooks might just have a point. The reality is that right now, nobody is close to Robbo in the top flight.

Benjamin Mendy is quality, but the Frenchman is seemingly permanently injured – while Luke Shaw and Marcos Alonso are a level behind.

Robertson is not only extremely feisty and hard-working, but he produces moments of quality regularly.

Altogether this term, he’s on six assists in the top flight, the most of any defender in the country. In fact, the only Liverpool player with more is Mo Salah, the Egyptian King who’s on seven with 17 goals to boot!
