The player who will likely replace Alberto Moreno at left-back…

Alberto Moreno’s contract at Liverpool expires at the end of this season, and it’s not going to be renewed.

The Spaniard arrived in 2014, but has never lived up to his potential and has been very much second-choice ever since the emergence of the practically ever-present Andy Robertson.

But Liverpool will still need to replace Moreno and have a capable left-back on our bench going into the 2019/20 season.

According to James Pearce, who was doing a Q&A with the Echo, that man is likely young Englishman Adam Lewis, who currently stars for our U23s.

“Liverpool have big hopes for Lewis and if he steps up and delivers between now and August he could establish himself as Robertson’s deputy with Moreno leaving this summer,” he told the Echo.

“It will be interesting to see what Klopp does in terms of back-up for Alisson as I’d expect Mignolet to move on. If he doesn’t think Kelleher or Grabara are ready to be the No 2 then he will need to sign a more experienced keeper. I’d certainly expect Hoever, Jones and Camacho to stick around as squad players.”

It’s interesting to see the boss turning to his U23 side rather than entering the transfer market for a backup option.

We’ve not seen much of Lewis first-hand, but he’ll have a summer with the first-team to establish himself during the off-season.

If we also promote Grabara to being our understudy goalkeeper, we’ll have plenty of funds to strengthen elsewhere.

Another central defender would be smart, while a striker is similarly a necessity considering the expected departures of Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge.
