17-year-old Paul Glatzel is set to sign his first professional contract at Liverpool once he turns 18 next week – and we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about the talented striker.

Glatzel has notched 22 goals for the Reds’ Academy sides this season, often captaining the under-18s, and has more recently been getting run-outs for the under-23s.

He was captain as the under-18s made the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals by beating Wigan last Wednesday; they will face Bury in the last-eight at a date to be confirmed.

Born in Liverpool to German parents, alongside Bobby Duncan, who has 21 goals himself this season, Glatzel has formed a prolific partnership. The Reds really do have two gems in the making.

Capable of holding the ball up and bringing others into play, as well as having excellent finishing ability, Glatzel has all the tools required to become a top-class forward if he continues to develop as he has been.

He’s been at the club since the under-nine age group and has already trained with the first team at times. His professional contract is a more than just reward for his progress this season having made a strong comeback from some serious injuries during his teenage years.

Like with any young player, the club will urge caution and there is still a long way to go for Glatzel to be first-team ready, but he is doing everything he can to make the grade.
