Jurgen Klopp has stated that Liverpool explored the possibility of signing Jadon Sancho from Manchester City, but that our rivals would simply not contemplate allowing him to join an English club.

The phenomenal teenager left for Germany in 2017, and he’s now one of the first names on Borussia Dortmund’s team-sheet, despite still being only 18-years-old. This season he has eight goals in all competitions and a hatful of assists to boot.

“With the English players, it is a smart idea because we would never have a chance to get Sancho,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

“We are not blind – we saw him, we liked him and then we think ‘can we get him?’ No. Because English clubs don’t sell them to other English clubs.

“I don’t know exactly what the reason is for that but they don’t do it. Now they can go to Germany, which is a wonderful league.”

Sancho is arguably the best player in the world right now of his age, and he’s on track to develop into one of the game’s superstars.

City must be kicking themselves for allowing him to leave for such a small sum of money, considering what he’s surely worth now.

If Liverpool did want Sancho, we’d likely have to pay a sum approaching nine-figures – which would eclipse the £75m it took to bring Virgil van Dijk to Anfield.

It’s not something we can see happening any time soon, to be fair. But one day down the line, Sancho may want a return to England and Dortmund might consider cashing in on their hottest property, as they eventually do with all their top talent.
