Liverpool’s Likely XI v Bayern, including Roberto Firmino, set to start despite illness

Here is the side we expect Jurgen Klopp to field against Bayern Munich tonight:

Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Joel Matip, Fabinho; Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Naby Keita; Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino

The keeper is an automatic choice, obviously, as is Robbo at left-back. Joel Matip is actually the only fit available senior central defender, so he’ll be in the side as well.

According to the Times, Fabinho is going to start alongside him. Trent made his return against Bournemouth in the final 15 minutes, and with that fixture being ten days ago, he should be absolutely fine to start this evening. We’ll need his pace in the position against Kingsley Coman, who’s fit again.

With Fabinho at the back, Jordan Henderson can anchor the team. Gini Wijnaldum, our best midfielder this season, will play on one side of the skipper – and we reckon Keita will keep his spot – although James Milner is also an option as he always is in big European fixtures.

Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are fit and ready, and despite Bobby missing training with a virus yesterday, David Lynch of the Standard said he should be ok to play.

Bring it on!
